Body of missing hunter is found

WADDINGTON – A missing hunter was found dead Sunday morning off County Route 31.

Raymond D. Burton, 53, Hemmingford, Quebec, was last seen Saturday by friends when he went deer hunting, St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies said. He was reported missing late Saturday when he did not return to the hunting camp as planned.

Foul play is not suspected, but the investigation is continuing, deputies said.

Several sheriff’s deputies, state forest rangers, state troopers and firefighters searched the area around the camp, deputies said. His body was found around 7:30 a.m. Sunday by state forest rangers about 1,300 feet off County Route 31.

Coroner James M. Sienkiewycz said Mr. Burton could have died from a heart attack. An autopsy will be done today at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, by forensic pathologist Dr. Samuel A. Livingstone.

Mr. Burton’s hometown is nearly 100 miles from Waddington. Hemmingford is a few miles from the U.S.-Canada border near Champlain, Clinton County.
