Hunting Accidents Adding Up

Several hunters were injured in shootings and falls over the weekend. A 52-year-old man shot himself in the hand while hunting near Barnesville and a 16-year-old boy shot himself in the foot near Perham.

Neither of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening. In Big Stone county, a father accidentally shot his son while loading his shotgun. The slug traveled through his pickup box into the cab of the truck, where it struck 16-year-old Jesse Gess. Information on his condition isn’t available.

Two people were injured when their deer stands collapsed in Otter Tail county. 81-year-old Thomas Shulstand suffered a possible broken leg. He used his cell phone to call for help. Melissa Johnson fell five feet when the wooden floor of an old deer stand gave way. She suffered injuries to her legs and had to be taken out of the woods on an ATV.
