On-Star, Posse Sirens Help Rescue Missing Hunter
MONTROSE, Colo. — On-Star and a posse using sirens helped rescue a missing hunter on the Western Slope.
Joshua Kitchen, 25, of Canon City, was hunting with his father, Donald Kitchen, 48, Tuesday when Joshua left their vehicle to track an elk, according to the Montrose Press.
When Joshua didn’t return by 10 p.m., his father flagged down a driver for help. That driver had On-Star, the satellite phone service. He used On-Star to call the Montrose County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office posse was blasting a siren at 2:40 a.m. when they heard a single gunshot ring out, the newspaper said.
An hour later, the posse found Joshua Kitchen and led him out of the woods.
Joshua had hypothermia and possible frostbite after being out in the 13-degree weather, the Montrose Press said.
