Hunter accidentally shoots himself
ESOPUS – A Port Ewen man accidentally shot himself while getting ready to go duck and goose hunting, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday.
George Banks, Sr., 36, of 20 St. Josephs Blvd. was getting ready to go hunting with his two children on private property off River Road in the Town of Esopus on Monday afternoon and loaded three shotguns. He laid one of them on a four wheeler and when he went to pick it back up, it had gotten stuck in some netting on the vehicle. He pulled on it to retrieve it and the weapon fired, striking him under his right arm.
Banks was transported to Westchester Medical Center by helicopter for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm.
Although no tickets were issued at the scene, the incident remains under investigation
