Officials identify man shot in hunting incident

Castro County sheriff’s officials Wednesday identified the man whose body was discovered Tuesday after a hunting outing.

Deputies said Jared Cade Kelley, 28, of Lubbock died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Lubbock police received a 911 call overnight Tuesday stating Kelley had been shot and killed in Castro County.

Officials located Kelley’s body near County Road 506 and three-quarters of a mile north of County Road 629, about 20 miles outside of Dimmitt. While officials found identification on Kelley’s body Tuesday, they were awaiting the autopsy results and fingerprint identification before positively identifying his remains.

Castro County authorities said the investigation into Kelley’s death continued Wednesday afternoon and two men have been questioned.

One of those individuals was arrested on an unrelated charge by the Lubbock Police Department, but the charge and the person’s name weren’t immediately released.
