Hunter in Critical Condition After Being Shot in Douglas County

WASCOTT, Wisc. – A hunter who was shot in Douglas County Sunday morning remains in critical condition at the Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Medical Center of Duluth.

A DNR spokesman says 32-year-old Nicholas Bitz of Madison was shot in the shoulder during a deer drive in Wascott, Wisc.

DNR officers continue to investigate that incident and four other non-life-threatening hunting shootings over the weekend.

They say all the shootings happened because the shooters did not check to make sure no one was behind their targets.
