Police investigating Kentucky deer hunter’s death

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (AP) – Police say a central Kentucky man has been fatally shot in an apparent hunting accident.

The State Journal cites a statement from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in reporting that detectives are investigating the death of 34-year-old Marc Helton of Lexington.

Helton’s body was found Sunday night in a remote area of Anderson County, about 12 miles from Frankfort.

Anderson County Coroner Brian Ritchie told the Lexington Herald-Leader that Helton accidentally shot himself while trying to hoist a rifle up to a deer stand. Ritchie says the gun’s trigger got caught on a limb and it discharged, hitting Helton in the neck.

He was found in the deer stand after a friend who was hunting in a different area reported him missing.
