Missing Camillus hunter found dead

MONTAGUE, NY (AP) — The body of a 79-year-old hunter from the Syracuse area
was found in the woods about a mile from where he was last seen by his son.
Robert Levett of Camillus had been hunting with his son in the Tug Hill
Wildlife Management Area Saturday when he failed to show up at a meetup
spot. The search began that evening.
Levett’s body was found around 10 a.m. Tuesday. It was spotted from the air
by searchers in a state police helicopter who directed nearby ground
searchers to the site.
The cause and time of death were not immediately evident. Lt. Joel Nowalk of
the New York State Forest Rangers said Levett didn’t appear to have suffered
an injury and may have spent up to three nights exposed to the elements.

Searchers continue to look for a 79-year-old Syracuse-area man who went
missing while hunting with his son over the weekend in the Tug Hill region
of Central New York.
Searchers say they found footprints Monday that they hope belong to Robert
Levett of Camillus.
Levett was hunting with his son Saturday afternoon. When he didn’t show up
for an appointed meetup, the son sought help.
State Police and Department of Environmental Conservation rangers searched
through Saturday night and Sunday, including a helicopter. 50 to 60 searchers combed the thickly wooded, swampy area Monday afternoon.
