Hunter shot in face when his rifle malfunctions

January 7, 2011

Natural Resources Police say an Elkton man was shot in the face when his muzzleloader rifle malfunctioned and shot him in the face while he was hunting in Kent County.

Forty-seven-year-old Larry Bollinger was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in critical but stable condition.

Police say Bollinger was hunting with friends about 8:45 a.m. Friday when he was shot. He was able to get to his ATV and drive to a nearby farmhouse and call 911.
