Feds support sentence with 5-year hunting ban
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) – Federal prosecutors recommend the maximum $20,000 fine and a 5-year prohibition on hunting and fishing anywhere in the world when an Aberdeen man is sentenced for smuggling the hide of a leopard into the United States.
Wayne D. Breitag was convicted by a jury for fraudulently importing the hide of a leopard he shot in Africa in 2002.
In court documents filed in advance of the Feb. 1 sentencing, the U.S. Attorney’s office also recommends six months imprisonment, a $5,000 community service payment to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and 200 hours of community service with the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks.
