2 men indicted over illegal guided deer hunts in Kansas
WICHITA – A federal grand jury in Wichita has returned a 23-count indictment charging two brothers from Martinsville, Texas, with illegally selling guided deer hunts in southern Kansas.
The Justice Department said today that James Bobby Butler Jr., 41, and Marlin Jackson Butler, 35, were charged with violating the Lacey Act, a federal law that prohibits the interstate transportation of animals taken illegally.
The Butlers are charged with operating a guide service and hunting camp in Comanche County where hunters exceeded annual bag limits, hunted deer without permits, killed deer using illegal equipment and hunted using prohibited methods such as spotlighting.
The indictment said the hunters paid $2,500 to $3,500 to hunt with archery equipment and about $5,000 to hunt with rifles.
