Malta outfitter sentenced for leading illegal hunt
GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) – A 57-year-old Malta man accused of illegally hunting on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation has been barred from outfitting and guiding on federal land for two years.
Donald B. Lynn was found guilty in May of violating the Lacey Act, which regulates the interstate sale, transportation and purchase of wildlife. He was sentenced July 1 in federal court and must pay $2,000 in restitution.
Prosecutors say Lynn – an outfitter licensed by the state of Montana – took four Mississippi residents deer hunting on the reservation in November 2006, even though none of them is an enrolled member of the Fort Belknap Tribe. One of the clients shot a deer, and Lynn was accused of telling him to lie to game wardens about the location of the kill.
