Man Arrested for Using Dead Woman’s Name to Apply for Hunting Tags
SANDY, Ore. — Oregon State Police arrested a Sandy man for allegedly using a dead woman’s name to apply for hunting tags.
After a nearly two-year investigation, police arrested Leroy Arlow Anderson, 68, last month for allegedly using the name of a friend’s deceased mother to unlawfully apply for tags in northeast Oregon.
In Nov. 2008, police say the woman’s name was drawn for a ODFW rifle elk tag for the Snake River Unit. However, she had died in 2006 at the age of 92. Her name was also listed as applying for deer and elk point savers during 2007.
Troopers served a search warrant at Anderson’s home in June 2009.
After collecting more evidence, a judge signed two felony warrants for Anderson’s arrest.
Anderson was indicted on two felony counts of identity theft and two misdemeanor counts of false application for a hunting license.
Anderson’s arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 20.
