Area couple sentenced in illegal hunting case

Cumberland (WQOW) – An area couple settles charges in an illegal hunting case.

Gerald Denver of Cumberland was accused of illegally killing a wolf and five bears, and shining and shooting two does and three bucks out a bedroom window of his home. His wife, Robin, was convicted of assisting him, and of hunting bear out of season.

Wednesday, the couple was fined more than $4,600. Gerald is forbidden from hunting or fishing for 12 years; Robin nine years. Robin is also due in court in Barron County next month on charges of illegally shooting a trophy bear hibernating in its den, during deer season.

Wardens say Gerald helped the DNR’s case, by keeping a detailed diary of every animal he shot illegally, including when and how each was killed.
