Police: Man Was Hunting In Back Yard Man Ticketed By DNR For Illegal Bait Pile
TROY, Mich. — A man is being investigated after Troy police say he illegally hunted deer in his back yard.
Lt. Bob Redmond said a tip that the man was selling marijuana out of his home led police to the man’s house, where they discovered that he also had a crossbow aimed out his kitchen window at a deer feed pile.
Redmond said the DNR was called to investigate and the man was then ticketed with having an illegal bait pile.
“Well, the fact that he’s got it perched right next to the open window, overlooking the bait pile, it’s clear what he’s up to,” Redmond said.
Redmond said a dead deer was found about 100 feet from the pile, but there’s no way to prove the man killed it.
Redmond said the more pressing issue is safety in the neighborhood, because the arrows can travel far distances.
Redmond said the man had a state-issued license to sell the marijuana for medicinal purposes, but that he had more than what was allowed under state rules.
The man’s name is not being released because he has not been formally charged. But sources told Local 4 that he is scheduled to face a judge on charges of violating medical marijuana.
