Crackdown on illegal deer hunting

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Department of Natural Resources is stepping up its game to catch people who are using an illegal form of hunting to catch deer.
Eight people have been arrested in the last month for what is known as “night hunting”. This is an illegal method used by hunters to shine a spotlight on a deer to temporarily stun it, allowing them to take aim.
Most hunters do not realize how severe the punishment can be if caught performing such illegal tactics. “You get booked into the detention center, you lose your license, you pretty much can lose everything,” said Sgt. Joe Ard of the Department of Natural Resources.
Under South Carolina Law some creatures like raccoons and coyotes can be hunted at night legally but deer are off limits.
