Arrest made after police find body
ABBEVILLE — Authorities have charged a man with negligent homicide after finding the body of a missing hunter in a Vermilion Parish.
Authorities found the body of Jullien Gajan Jr., 56, on Saturday near White Lake. Gajan had been missing since he left in his boat to go hunting Wednesday.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon said Sunday that 47-year-old Quint Mire told authorities that he accidentally shot and killed Gajan in a hunting accident.
Mire allegedly said he fired his shotgun three times at what he thought was a deer in some brush. The sheriff said Mire told investigators that he panicked and fled the scene.
