A Floyd County man was charged with murder early today after police say he unintentionally shot and killed his 22-year-old son, said Maj. Mark Wallace with the Floyd County Police Department.

Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard pronounced Steven L. Craig, 22, dead at 7:20 p.m. Monday. His body was found 300 yards behind his home at 266 Black’s Bluff Road back in the woods, he said.

Johnny Craig, of 268 Black’s Bluff Road, was charged with felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said Wallace.

Steven Craig and his father were out in the back of the residence in the woods hunting squirrels with some other male family members.

“Steven went up to Johnny and tapped him on the shoulder and he startled him,” she said.

When he turned around he accidentally shot his son, fatally wounding him.
