THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. — The first person prosecuted under Wyoming’s enhanced anti-poaching law could be banned from hunting for the rest of his life.
Nineteen-year-old Colton Lapp on Monday pleaded guilty Monday in Thermopolis to three felony counts of killing an antlered deer outside of hunting season.
The Northern Wyoming Daily News reported that Lapp has agreed to a preliminary plea agreement that calls for him to give up his hunting privileges in Wyoming and 36 other states that participate in the wildlife compact. He could face up to 6 years behind bars but his sentence could be reduced if he completes a prison boot camp program.
