CROWLEY (AP) — A tip that someone was hunting ducks out of season brought an arrest on a number of charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.
Crowley police had detained Larry J. Marceaux Jr., 30, for wildlife agents, who confiscated a dead female wood duck and a Marlin .17-caliber rifle and booked Marceaux on numerous charges Wednesday, Enforcement Division spokesman Adam Einck said.
He said other charges on which Marceaux was booked included hunting ducks during a closed season, doing so with an illegal firearm, using lead shot in an area designated for steel shot, and hunting ducks without a state hunting or duck license or a federal duck stamp.
Conviction on the gun possession charge carries a fine of $1,000 to $5,000 and 10 to 20 years in jail, Einck said. He said four of the other charges each carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail, and hunting migratory game birds without a state hunting license or duck license each carries a $50 fine and up to 15 days in jail.
