MILTON — A 51-year-old man was arrested Feb. 28 after he allegedly shot and killed a part-time Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer’s dog.
Marshall Fuqua and two volunteers were in the wooded area of Blackwater Wildlife Management Area on Feb. 4 using his Jack Russell terrier to hunt down a wounded deer.
During the hunt, the dog got ahead of Fuqua and while looking for him the officer heard two gun shots coming from a nearby road.
Once he got to the road, Fuqua said he saw evidence his dog had been shot.
Harold McMillion of Crestview had been hunting in the area and told the officer he had shot twice at a deer.
Further up the roadway, the dog was found dead with two gun shot wounds. The dog was less than 2 feet long and had white fur.
McMillion was charged with animal cruelty and criminal mischief. He was booked in the Santa Rosa County Jail.
