LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky man has been barred from hunting migratory birds for two years after pleading guilty to baiting and hunting mourning doves.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Dave Whalin also required 61-year-old Joseph F. Marks of Louisville to pay a $1,000 fine, and $25 in special penalty assessments.
Marks pled guilty Feb. 9, to violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, a federal wildlife statute which protects migratory birds and regulates the hunting of migratory game birds.
Marks was charged in a one count misdemeanor Information on January 26, 2012, with placing bait for the purpose of luring mourning doves.
Investigators concluded that between Aug. 31, 2011 and Sept. 3, 2011 Marks placed cracked corn into the ground to keep birds feeding in the area in preparation of a dove hunt.
