A Virginia Beach man was shot to death Wednesday while turkey hunting in Sussex County.
Kevin Brooks, 46, was pronounced dead on the scene, near Waverly. He was shot by Raymond Weidner, 70, with a shotgun.
“The two men were stalking wild turkeys while hunting when they separated,”
said Lee Walker, outreach director for the game department.
“The shooter, Mr. Weidner, saw some movement and misidentified his target, fatally striking the victim, Mr. Brooks.”
Walker said this was the state’s second hunting fatality of the year. The other was Jan. 1 in Carroll County, when a man was shot accidently by his juvenile son.
