Teresa Ann Krantz faces two charges of felony animal cruelty after allegedly admitting to shooting two family neighborhood dogs from her deer stand last month in Isanti County, reported Friday’s MyFox9.com news.
Krantz, 49, told an Isanti County deputy she had been deer hunting in Braham when she observed a deer running. As the deer approached the trail, a black dog appeared, and Krantz stated she fired a shot into the air to scare the dog away so the animal wouldn’t chase the deer.
Instead, Krantz stated the dog reappeared with another dog a few moments later, and from her deer stand, Krantz fired her rifle and shot the dog in the head instantly killing her. Krantz then shot the second dog in the leg, and when she stepped off of her deer stand, shot the dog in the chest killing that animal too.
Nikki Ostrom was one of the dog owners who said her Australian shepherd, Labrador mix named Maggie was part of her family. The other dog, who happened to be Maggie’s mother named Daisy, belonged to a friend, Tim Yotter.
The two dog owners tracked the bloody trail of their dogs to a nearby home.
They later filed criminal complaints.
If found guilty, Krantz faces a maximum punishment of a $5,000 fine and two years in prison.
