A driver accused of illegal night hunting quickly tossed his hat with a spotlight on it back into his vehicle, but not before Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s deputies already had seen it, according to a release.
When deputies pulled 52-year-old Kurt P. Merritt of Natchitoches over, he got out of the 2012 Jeep wearing a hat with a spotlight on it, according to the release.
Merritt “immediately removed the spotlight, throwing it into the vehicle,”
reads the release. But deputies saw the spotlight and weapons inside the vehicle, and arrested Merritt.
Merritt, of the 100 block of Patrick Road in Natchitoches, was booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and was charged with hunting deer from a public road, hunting deer during illegal hours with an artifical light, hunting deer from a moving vehicle, hunting deer with an illegal weapon, possession of meth and possession of firearms during a felony narcotics offense.
