MONTMORENCY CO. — An Oakland County man has confessed to killing an elk on opening day of firearm deer season in Montmorency County.
The Department of Natural Resources said the 51-year-old Waterford man is facing elk poaching charges. A deer hunter contacted the DNR after he found the dead elk near Atlanta on November 15.
Conservation officers from the DNR’s Gaylord Service Center responded to the area to find a 4×4 bull elk dead from a single gunshot.
After a lengthy investigation by the officers, a suspect was identified and a confession was obtained. Charges are currently under review by the Montmorency County Prosecutor.
