NY: Hunter shot in Westmoreland

WESTMORELAND A man was shot in a hunting accident around 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Westmoreland, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Kevin Barber, 43, had an open wound in his right forearm from a bullet from the gun of Bernard Snell Jr., 45, deputies report. Snell Jr. stated that he had shot at and believed he wounded a deer about 10-15 minutes prior. Barber also shot at the same deer a few minutes later, but it’s not known if he had struck it, deputies report.

Snell Jr. stated that he believed he saw the deer in some heavy brush, about
20-25 yards away from him, waited a short time to confirm and then aimed and fired his .50 caliber muzzleloader, striking Barber, deputies report.
