FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — Four men have been charged with illegal hunting after an incident in which one of their friends was accidentally shot.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say 57-year-old Roy Contee of Upper Marlboro shot a member of his hunting group in the abdomen and knee Saturday afternoon. The victim, 59-year-old Ricky Johnson of Clinton, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Baltimore Sun reports the men were hunting in a wooded area off a major road in Fort Washington. The land is owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (http://bsun.md/yhWwRs).

Contee is charged with negligent hunting, hunting without written permission and illegal use of buckshot. Three others also face hunting-related charges.
