A Northampton hunter and his son were injured Monday night when they fell out of a tree stand in the woods next to a Whitehall Township cornfield, police said.

The fall happened about 6:45 p.m. along Spring Mill Road, east of MacArthur Road, township police said. The man’s injuries appeared more serious than those of his son, who is about 7 years old, police said.

“The man was taken away on a board,” an officer said. “He was in some pain and he was having a hard time breathing.” The boy also complained of back pain, but seemed to have fared better.

The man and his son were strapped to stretchers were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police said it is archery season, and they believe the father and son were bowhunting.
