Squirrelly hunter caught with contraband
MANKATO — Four people were stopped on a back road in in Nicollet County in October with a backpack full of dead squirrels and a small dead deer the car’s trunk.
The driver, 23-year-old Thaw Do Wah of St. Paul, only had an instructional permit. The man with the squirrels, 22-year-old Htoo Nay of Willmar, didn’t have a hunting license.
Nay told officers he was the only person shooting the rifle. He said they had been hunting and one of the people with him, 20-year-old Ko Lay of Willmar, helped him drag the deer to the car and put it in the trunk.
Nay, Wah and Lay were each charged with illegal hunting, a gross misdemeanor. Nay was also charged with four hunting-related misdemeanors.
