MAMOU MAN PLEADS TO SEVERAL DEER VIOLATIONS, MUST PAY $9,200

A Mamou man pleaded guilty Feb. 5 to several deer hunting violations and has three months to pay about $9,200 in fines and civil restitution.

According to Claiborne Parish records, James D. Fontenot, 44, was arrested on Nov. 22, 2013 and charged with four counts of discharging a firearm from public roads, four counts of taking deer from public road, four counts of hunting or taking deer in illegal hours with artificial light, taking/possession over limit of deer (5 antlerless deer when limit is 4), three counts of failure to tag deer and three counts of hunting from a moveable vehicle.

Wildlife and Fisheries personnel Lt. Kenneth Balkom and Senior Agents Bryant Coburn and Jared McIver arrested Fontenot as he was hunting off of Hwy. Alt.
2 near Summerfield, records show.

He was ordered to pay a fine of $5,202 and civil restitution of $4,083, The
$9,285 is due in full by May 6.
