TN: Two Greene County men banned from hunting after illegal deer poaching
02/28/2024
Two men have been given lifetime hunting bans after they illegally poached deer in Greene County, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) announced.
The TWRA reported that father and son Shelby Gene Church, 73, and Gene Allen Church, 47, pleaded guilty to multiple charges after TWRA officers charged them with illegally harvesting an eight-point buck deer from the road in Greene County.
In the fall of 2023, however, a wildlife officer investigated complaints of road hunting for deer in the same area and discovered that Gene Allen Church had harvested and checked three deer during his hunting revocation, the TWRA released.
The TWRA explained that those who have revoked hunting privileges are still able to purchase hunting and fishing licenses in Tennessee, but are barred from physically hunting in any of the 46 states participating in the Interstate Wildlife Violators Compact. They are still allowed to continue fishing or participating in other outdoor recreational opportunities.
