AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) – Charleston County deputies say a hunter was accidentally shot in the arm early Tuesday morning after his gun went off when he fell out of a tree stand.

Authorities say the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. off Halfway Creek Road in Awendaw.

The victim told deputies he was in a tree stand with a 20-gauge shotgun.

When he fell out of the stand, the shotgun went off, shooting multiple pellets into his right upper bicep. He also suffered a head injury.
