Sentences handed for illegal hunting

January 24, 2011

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Six Oxford men have pleaded guilty to federal hunting violations.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports the pleas were entered Monday in federal court in Greenville.

All six were fined and placed on probation. U.S. Attorney John Dowdy says none of the men can hunt anything or go to any hunting camp during their probation.

Prosecutors say federal investigators found 72 ducks, mostly mallards, with the men and another eight disposed of when they realized game wardens were on to them – that’s 80 birds for seven men, compared with a daily limit of 4.

They were charged with multiple violations last August.

A seventh hunter pleaded guilty in November.
