NY Bill to Ban the Import, Possession, Sale and Transportation of the Arica “Big 5”: Elephants, Lions, Leopards, Cape Buffalo, and Black and White Rhinos

The bill was drafted by Friends of Animals (FOA). In FOA’s online announcement of the bill it stated:

The primary reason that each of these species is facing extinction is human sport hunting, …Many of these hunts are purchased by Americans, and the trophies are imported into or through the state of New York. Domestic legislation…is vital to any hope of long-term survival of these species.

Peter Muller of LOHV-NY was one of several presenters at a press conference in New York City on April 8. He praised the bill calling it a “giant step toward saving the African Big 5.”
