IF YOU’VE BEEN VICTIMIZED BY HUNTER HARASSMENT LAWS OR BY HUNTERS

IF YOU’VE BEEN VICTIMIZED BY HUNTER HARASSMENT LAWS OR BY HUNTERS, PLEASE CONTACT C.A.S.H. or JAN HAAGENSEN AT janhaagensen@aol.com

Jan writes: It is my belief that Game Commission officers, local and state police, are behaving as though they were in fact an evangelical gun cult whose job it is to sponsor more and more lethal home invasions (i.e., armed trespasses on the private property of peace-loving landowners) in an effort to gain favors from friendly gun manufacturers and some politicians who have never demonstrated any respect for the public’s safety. We’ve seen how our government has failed to protect those in the path of a natural catastrophe.

The huge rise in gun crime is an approaching catastrophe posing a very real threat to both rural and ur- ban communities. (Pittsburgh is a case in point. Four teenagers died this week alone on the streets of our city.) Sponsoring and inciting reckless behavior with firearms (in addition to tearing up the Bill of Rights and denying people their First Amendment Right) is a suicidal policy but one that appears to have been embraced by the Game Commission, and even at times police in uniforms.

How else is it possible to characterize, in the name of “sport” deliberate firing of live rounds at vehicles, public roads, domestic pets, and other human beings attempting to mind their own business? Sadly, this policy appears to be national, not just regional, in scope. Publicizing the type of threat posed by hunters to those who object to reckless gunplay and endless killing is crucial to the defense of our real community. The ACLU is one of the rare national organizations willing to get into the trenches (local courtrooms) to protect us, the federal constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The response to these outrages perpetrated both by hunters, agencies and politicians must be national and not local if it is to succeed. I remain interested in being contacted by anyone exposed to the relentless assaults at the hands of state sponsored hunters or anyone who has been charged with hunter harassment.
