A state bill that is of great concern to us is pending in the Pennsylvania legislature is House Bill 213. House Bill 213 has passed the General Assembly (168-16) and is now headed for the State Senate.

It would classify hunter harassment and other animal protective acts as ecoterrorism and make those acts punishable by up to 40 years in jail and a $100,000 fine.

Pennsylvania has never been a community famous for embracing animal rights.

Many of us remember the pigeon shoots and turkey shoots with live tethered turkeys as targets. Many of the most egregious excesses and misapplications of the hunter harassment laws come from Pennsylvania.

There, at least one landowner has been arrested and charged with hunter harassment while trying to keep hunters from invading their homes and destroying their possessions. To enact this totally barbaric law makes one wonder if that legislature is playing with a full deck.
