ANIMAL DEFENSE LEAGUE CAUSES SUSPENSION OF DEER KILLING!

Days before a deer slaughter (culling) was to begin in Lloyd Harbor, Long Island, NY, the Animal Defense League put out the following alert:

THE BAIT & BULLET KILLING BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY 11/16

YOU CAN STOP IT!

Beginning at midnight Wednesday/Thursday the village of Lloyd Harbor will be opening two pieces of land and inviting in contract hunters with the Department of Environmental Conservation to bait and kill all of the village’s deer. The hunt has been scheduled to run through the end of December. One piece of land is the grounds of the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, the other is Caumsett State Park. In both locations DEC hunters will be applying scents and bait in open fields allowing deer to approach them, then shooting them at close range. The Seminary is volunteering the use of their property for the DEC hunters. We ask that that they follow the teachings in their faith and choose compassion, we ask that they not allow the hunt on their private property. We also demand that the incorporated Village of Lloyd Harbor reconsider proceeding with the hunt.
