A WILDLIFE WATCHING EXPERIENCE TO KNOW ABOUT

The Michigan Nature Association, established in 1952, has 162 nature sanctuaries. The largest is 508 acres and the smallest is less than one acre. What’s unusual about them is that they do not allow hunting (and in Michigan, no less).

In a conversation with Jeremy Emmi, executive director since 2001, he told us that there is a tremendous amount of pressure on the Association to allow hunting. What can we expect with close to 800,000 hunters in the state? He is prepared though, and said that he expects that there will always be pressure to open up these prime sanctuaries for hunting.

They do not charge people to go on their nature refuges yet they are able to raise enough money to sustain their operation. If you ever want to wildlife watch, we urge you to visit and support the sanctuaries of the Michigan Nature Association
