A RECENT RESCUE

Our most recent call was for the red-tailed hawk in the picture. She is now safe with a raptor specialist, Dr. Heinz Meng, who is caring for her until she is strong enough to be released. She would have starved to death, unable to hunt for her dinner (unlike a sport hunter), if not for Dr. Meng’s help. We know she’s a she because the female of this species is larger than the male, and she was quite large. When she was picked up from a steep slope in the woods by a quick and nimble person, everyone was yelling, “be careful of her talons,” but she stayed still and let him carry her to a container. She has been a good little patient. Dr. Meng said that it could have been days since she had had anything to eat.
