Joe Davis, the longtime athletic trainer for Pascagoula and Moss Point schools who has also been a high school basketball referee for more than two decades, is recuperating at home following a Jan. 9 hunting accident. Davis, 53, fell from a tree stand while deer hunting near Tuskegee, Ala., and fractured his left pelvis and hip socket as well as his shoulder blade.

Davis fell 15 feet and landed directly on his left hip.

Though he was alone in the woods at the time, Davis was able to use his cell phone to call friends who lived nearby. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was treated before being transferred to Birmingham.
