A 46-year-old Chitina trapper has been fined for using protected birds as bait.

Alaska State Troopers say Sven Rofkar pleaded guilty Tuesday to four counts of using illegal trapping bait.

Troopers say the protected birds used were ravens and gray jays.

Rofkar was fined $2,200, placed on probation for two years and ordered to forfeit his trapping privileges for a year. He also forfeited his traps.
